MoXxA is a neurosomatic micro-skills approach designed to support self-regulation and co-regulation in midwifery practice. Developed by Cluster member, Anja Guderjahn, MoXxA offers short, body-based regulation moments that help midwives and midwifery students manage the high cognitive, emotional, and physiological demands of their work.
MoXxA consists of two components:
- NEO: Focuses on self-regulation and is structured for early midwifery education and continuing education
- Birth: Focuses on co-regulating with the labouring woman through presence, rhythm, and body-based attunement during labour.
The underlying premise is that a regulated caregiver creates the foundation for a calm, undisturbed birth environment, and that co-regulation may support the physiological progress of labour by reducing stress and disturbance. MoXxA is currently exploring opportunities for feasibility and pilot studies within midwifery education and practice contexts.
