WEBINAR SAVE THE DATE: The Health Impacts of Unconventional Oil and Gas Development (Fracking) on Neonatal Outcomes for Mothers and Infants
June 10, 2025, 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm
Save the date for the Science of Physiologic Birth Research Cluster's upcoming webinar titled, The Health Impacts of Unconventional Oil and Gas Development (Fracking) on Neonatal Outcomes for Mothers and Infants, presented by Élyse Caron-Beaudoin and Dr. Margaret McGregor.
Webinar description:
Unconventional oil and gas development (UOGD, commonly known as “fracking”) is an industrial process for mining fossil fuels. The technique involves pumping water mixed with chemicals down drilled wells under high pressure to release oil and gas, and is now widely used in many parts of the world. Our presentation will review the published epidemiological evidence on neonatal outcomes for mothers and infants exposed to UOGD and describe results of a prospective biomonitoring study in a cohort of pregnant women living nearby this industry in Northeast British Columbia, Canada.
About the presenters:
Élyse Caron-Beaudoin, PhD is an assistant professor in environmental health at the University of Toronto in the Department of Health and Society
Dr. Margaret McGregor, MD, MHSc is a core faculty member with Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute’s Centre for Clinical Epidemiology and Evaluation and a clinical associate professor with the UBC Department of Family Practice.
