The Science of Birth Cluster hosted a webinar titled, Reproductive Autonomy in Theory and Practice: Birth, Law, and Medicine, with Dr. Régine Tremblay on September 24, 2024. The webinar was well-attended, attracting participants from across the globe.
Webinar description: In this webinar, Dr. Régine Tremblay will first engage with reproductive autonomy in theory. She will present a theoretical framework developed by Canadian legal scholars and will explore other models to regulate reproduction (reproductive justice, reproductive freedom, etc.). Secondly, she will apply theory to practice by explaining the regulation of health care professionals in Canada and selected issues pertaining to pregnancy and delivery in law (status of the fetus, agency of pregnant women and pregnant people, duties of health professionals, consent to care (declining care and procedures without consent), negligence/torts, and more.
