Individuals who exercise during pregnancy have reduced rates of gestational diabetes and hypertension, excessive weight gain, depression, urinary continence, cesarean birth, and severity of back and pelvic pain. Attention to warm-up preparation before pregnancy, good posture and using controlled movements for exercise and stretching is important. The Canadian Guidelines for Physical Exercise Throughout Pregnancy outline safe levels of exercise during pregnancy. Exercise is recommended to specific prescription for physical activity to reduce pregnancy complications and optimize health across the lifespan of mother and baby.
